Moving a show whose old host has shut down, or a library with no RSS feed

Modified on Tue, 20 Oct at 11:28 PM

If your old host has shut down, rebuild your show on RSS.com from your own audio files and keep your listings on Apple Podcasts, Spotify and other platforms. An import isn't possible, because it copies everything from your old RSS feed, and that feed is offline. The same goes for a library of audio files that never had a feed.

If your old feed and its audio files still load, an import still works. Start your import before they go offline.

Rebuild your show

  1. Create your podcast on RSS.com, with the title and cover art your listeners know.
  2. Upload each episode from your audio files. To give an episode its original date, publish it with Publish in the Past, which needs Power-Ups switched on. See Can I backdate an episode?
  3. On the Distribution tab, don't use Submit now. Turn on the switch only for directories your show isn't on yet, so Spotify and Amazon Music stay off if your show is already there. Submitting a listed show again creates a second listing. See What's the difference between automatic and guided distribution?

If your show was never listed on any platform, use Submit now to send it to all directories, and skip the next section.

Move your listings to the new feed

Your listings on Apple Podcasts, Spotify and other platforms still point to your old feed. Ask each platform to switch your listing to your RSS.com feed, https://media.rss.com/your-show-name/feed.xml.

If you can't sign in to your listing on a platform, ask that platform's support to update the feed for you.

What to expect

  • Your followers stay with your listing on each platform that switches to your new feed.
  • Apps see the rebuilt episodes as new episodes, because only an import keeps the original episode IDs.
